Search engine optimization means ensuring that your web pages are accessible to search engines and focused in ways that help improve the chances they will be found.

Home Page:
Website homepage is the most important part of the website. Since most on the Search Engines gives the priority to home page to list is Search Engines it is important to make sure the home page & all the other pages are Search Engine Friendly.

1.Homepage Title (HTML Title)
Your URL title length must be a minimum of 30 characters and no more then 60 characters.

Your pages title is probably the single most important part of your submission. This is very important for top search engine ranking; this title should cover the main keywords & not more than 65 characters.

Summary:
· Is the most important part of your page
· Should appeal to search engines and people
· Should be limited to about 60 characters.
· Should contain keywords close to each other and to the beginning
· Use this tag on all pages
· Needs to interest the reader

2.Website Description (Meta Description)
The Meta description tag describes your site's content, giving search engines' spiders an accurate summary filled with multiple keywords. This description has to describe the product or service & have keywords should be logically arranged.

Summary:
· Use the meta description tag on all pages
· Limit it to 150 characters
· Include main keywords
· Don't repeat keywords more than 3 times

3.Meta Keywords:
Do not use common keywords. This should contain all the important keywords separated by commas. It is recommended to pick the keywords form the homepage content, Meta title, Meta description & the other relevant keywords. No more than 500 characters.

Limit it to 500 characters
List keywords in order of importance
Don't repeat the same keyword more than 7 times.

4.ALT tags:
Always add ALT tags to your images to make sure search engines recognize all the content on your site. ALT tags filled with keywords can also be used to boost your keyword frequency and help you achieve better rankings. Use an ALT tag to describe every single image on your site. If you use text in an image, use the same text in the tag. Use ALT tags for the top images on your page

5.Finding a Domain name:
If you're still looking for a URL name to buy, keep alphabetical hierarchy in mind. Choose a name beginning with special characters or numbers if possible. Otherwise, choose something as close to the beginning of the alphabet as possible

6.Themes:
A theme is defined by search engines as a common topic throughout the site. In an effort to provide their users with more relevant information, search engines developed sophisticated technology that "extracts" site's themes. This technology allows results to be more focused on the topic searched for. Hint: Think of themes as your most important keywords used consistently throughout the site.

The purpose of themes is to look at the bigger picture, not just the parts. To determine a theme, robots index the whole site and then analyze its HTML. Factors analyzed are: HTML title, Meta tags, headings, text on the site, and links. Robots use technologies such as keyword weighting, extrapolation and root stemming to determine a theme.

7.What are the best places for keywords?
HTML Title (all pages)
Body text of the page (Specially Header & Footer Text)
Meta description (all pages)
Meta keywords (all pages)
ALT tags (all images)
Domain name

8.Home Page Structure & Content:
Homepage design & the content are important to better search engine ranking. It is recommended to avoid frames and because some search engine can’t index those pages. The home page content should contain the main keywords. / the keyword that has been given in the Meta description / Meta keywords can be slightly duplicated in the home page. Especially first 200 characters of the homepage should contain the main keywords.

It is recommended to avoid Flash introduction because it takes lot of time to load. It is estimated that if a page doesn't load within 8-10 seconds you will lose 1/3 of your visitors. That means that a page should lode fast.

9.Choose your keywords:
Choosing the right keywords is the first step to better search engine positioning. Analyze your business carefully and think of all the words that relate to your company or product.

As you think about keywords, consider the following:
1.Who needs your service?
2.Include variations of your keywords
3.Avoid wrong keywords
4.Do not use "stop words" -- particles like "and" and "the" and common words like "Internet, Hotels, Rooms"

Remember, the more specific your keywords are, the better the chance that people who find your site through search engines will actually benefit from its content.

10.Keyword Density:
Keyword density is almost never this high. The recommended density is 3-7%. This means that your keyword should repeat 3-7 times for every 100 words. Pick two or three of your most important keywords and try to use them 3-7 times for every 100 words

11.Link Popularity:
Link popularity is very important to get a higher search engine ranking.
Suggest keywords in link's description
Check who links to your competition and contact them.
Get relevant links to you website from related websites (Eg: For London hotels site – London attractions / London City Guides websites are relevant)

12.Doorway Domains:
Doorway Domains are pages specially optimized for search engine. Effective doorway Domains use only 1-2 keywords each. If you use more, your pages' effect will be diluted. Pick your three most important keywords and optimize with them for the search engines. Don't overdo -- too many doorway pages can be easily detected and banned.

13.What Search Engines Don't Like:
The following techniques are usually considered Spam

Meta refresh tags
Invisible text and overuse of tiny text
Irrelevant keywords in the title and meta tags
Excessive repetition of keywords
Overuse of mirror sites (same sites that point to different URLs)
Submitting too many pages in one day
Identical or nearly identical pages
Submitting to an inappropriate category (for directories)

Frames and site design
Frames are supposed to make navigation easier by keeping one part of a site constant while opening links in another part. However, frames have become a problem for webmasters and users alike for numerous reasons. With frames Printing a document is harder Bookmaking is problematic Site may not be indexed by most search engines Some older browsers can't read frames

Before submitting to Search Engines it is important to make sure that the site is perfect without any errors or dead links.
